Father's Day, 2013 is THIS Sunday, June 16th, do you know what you are getting Dad for Father's Day? Here are a few ideas of how to spend the day with Dad in the Tampa Bay area:

Lowry Park Zoo is celebrating Father's Day Weekend, 2013, by giving Dads free admission with the purchase of their son or daughter's full price admission ticket. Dads can receive free admission on Saturday, June 15th and Sunday, June 16th as long as their son or daughter purchases their ticket on those days. Lowry Park Zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The ticket price for children ages 3 to 11 is $19.95. Adult tickets are $24.95. In addition to animals and their habitats, there are several fun rides at the zoo. Father's Day is a great time to discover that Lowry Park Zoo is wild about dads!

Another attraction in Tampa giving free admission for Dads on Father's Day Weekend is the Florida Aquarium. So if you prefer to spend your day with Dad indoors with over 20,000 creatures, Dads get in free with one full paid admission. Admission prices are adults $21.95, seniors over 60 $18.95 and children under 12 $16.95. Children under 2 get in free. This offer can be redeemed at the onsite box office on Saturday, June 15th and Sunday, June 16, 2013. Hours are 9:30 to 5:00 p.m. Exhibits include the Wetlands Trail, Bays and Beaches, Coral Reef, and Ocean Commotion. Located at Channelside in Downtown Tampa, treat Dad to a day at the Florida Aquarium this Father's Day!

In St. Petersburg, the Tampa Bay Rays are playing at home on Father's Day. The game against the Kansas City Royals begins at 1:40 p.m. To help celebrate Father's Day, the Ticket Tandem promotion item is a one of a kind apron designed like the jerseys the players wear on the field. To receive your apron on game day, pick it up at the Redemption Center in the First Base Food Court on the 100-Level Concourse while supplies last. Also to celebrate Father's Day, the Rays Summer Concert Series continues with the Imagination Movers after the game. The concert is free to all ticket holders after the game. Rays ticket prices begin at $14 and up. Celebrate Father's Day with a baseball game and concert and the Tampa Bay Rays!

What Do I Love About Real Estate?

While I work on rebranding my business and my online marketing, I am taking the "Blogging Bootcamp" courses with ActiveRain. One of the "Action Items" is to write a blog about what I love about real estate. Without sounding cliché or writing a novel, here are the first few answers that came to mind.

What Do I Love About Real Estate?

The People - Buyers, Sellers, Business partners, other Realtors® both near and far. I am a "people person" and helping people get where they want or need to go is one of my favorite things to do.

Educating Others - My first career in life was that of an elementary school teacher. While I am not at all comparing clients and business partners to school children, I LOVE the process of educating others! Ask as many questions as you like and I will happily answer them... even if you ask the same question over and over and over again.

The Challenge - Working in Florida, it's not a secret that many of the homes on the market are foreclosures. What will the condition of the house be? Will it pass inspection? What can be done to get the deal to close on time? Are my clients happy?

Problem Solving - Knowing the potential problems a deal could face, solving the problem, and keeping the buyer or seller I am representing happy during the process is another thing I love about real estate.

And to the investors and future investors out there, I still believe Andrew Carnegie when he said, "Ninety percent of all millionaires became so through real estate".

What's not to love about real estate?

Barbara Corcoran at Florida Realtors® 2012 Convention

Many years ago, I don't know if it was the bright yellow book cover or the title that caught my eye. From the moment I picked up Barbara Corcoran's National Bestseller, I couldn't put it down until I had read every word. After all, Manhattan and real estate are two of my favorite things!

There are so many lessons to learn from Barbara Corcoran and today I had the opportunity to hear her speak in person at the Florida Realtors® 2012 Convention. She is still as full of wisdom and inspiration today as she was when she started her real estate business and when she wrote her first bestseller!

Oh and yes, I live in Florida even though I love Manhattan! The Tampa Bay area is just too beautiful to leave!

Have You Taken a Final Stroll on the St. Petersburg Pier?

Have you taken a final stroll on the St. Petersburg Pier? In less than two weeks, the St. Petersburg Pier will be closing. On May 31, 2013, the shops, aquarium, businesses and restaurants will close their doors. Another chapter in the history of The Pier will come to an end.

This iconic landmark has provided hours of entertainment for residents of St. Petersburg and visitors alike. From walking and fishing to concerts and Music Fests by the Bay, The Pier has offered something for everyone.

The month of May has seen many goodbye parties on The Pier. As we prepare for Memorial Day weekend, this will be the last Memorial Day Celebration at the St. Petersburg Pier.

Ultimate Memorial Day Celebration at the St. Petersburg Pier

Events and Festivities will include:

On Friday, May 24th, the Ultimate Spring Salsa Celebration in the Courtyard. Come dance the cha cha, bachata, merengue, and more with DJ Greg Richardson from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Salsa under the stars at the last Salsa Celebration at The Pier.

On Saturday, May 25th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sheri Nadleman and friends will be on stage for an afternoon of pop rock music in the Courtyard.

Also on Saturday, May 25th, Jonny Reno's will host "The Black Honkies" on stage from 8 p.m. til midnight.

On Sunday, May 26th, the final Music Fest by the Bay will feature "Solid Core" with music from the 60's between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Monday, May 27th - Memorial Day at The Pier

Beginning at at 1 p.m., "The Tempests" will take the stage with songs from the 60's and 70's until 5 p.m. There will be two afternoon ski shows brought to you by the Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team.

For the evening, a drum circle with Giving Tree Music and "Uncle John's Band" from 7 to 9:45 will close out the day. Confetti cannons and fireworks will be the finishing touch to the final Ultimate Memorial Day Celebration at The Pier.

Whether for the Ultimate Memorial Day Celebration at the Pier or not, I hope you will take the opportunity for one last stroll, fishing trip, waterfront dinner, or feeding of the pelicans at the St. Petersburg Pier!

River Fest 2012: Chili, Beers & Cheer!

River Fest 2012 is coming and this year's theme is Chili, Beers & Cheer! THIS Saturday, November 10, 2012, from noon to 9 p.m. in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, there will be a chili cook-off, concerts, and more. Admission to the event is FREE.

The concert schedule begins at noon. Throughout the day, there will be performances by Bullseye Ride, Easy Posse Riders, Caroline Kole aka "Suite Caroline", and the Trailer Choir.

Chili Tasting Kits go on sale at 2 p.m. for a $10 donation to benefit Friends of the Riverwalk and USO Tampa Bay. The kits include a cup and spoon for chili sampling. Chili Sampling begins at 3 p.m. and goes until the chili is gone!

Parking is available at the nearby Poe Garage (corner of Ashley Drive and Cass Street). Regular parking at the garage is $1.20/hour. Parking fees are regulated by the City of Tampa and may differ for special events.

Warm up those taste buds and get ready to enjoy River Fest 2012: Chili, Beers & Cheer!

Tampa Bay Veterans Day Parade

River Fest 2012: Chili, Beers & Cheer

Today is a fun day in Tampa Bay!

With the observance of Veteran's Day on Monday, this is a holiday weekend and holidays mean parades. The 19th Annual Tampa Bay Veterans Day Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. this morning at the corner of Hanley and Barry Road. The parade will travel south on Hanley to Paula Drive.

At noon, in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, the music will begin for River Fest 2012: Chili, Beers & Cheer. The concerts begin at 1 p.m. while the chili cook-off is underway. Tasting kits (donation $10) go on sale at 2 p.m. and tasting begins at 3 p.m. until all the chili is gone!

However you choose to spend your time today, remember to be thankful for the service that our veterans and current servicemen and women provide. Enjoy your Saturday in Tampa Bay!

Will You Be Dining Out in Tampa on Thanksgiving Day?

Will you be dining out in Tampa on Thanksgiving Day? If so, here is a list of several restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

For a Thanksgiving Day cruise, the Yacht Starship will be sailing twice on Thanksgiving Day. Boarding for the early cruise begins at 11 a.m. to set sail at 11:30. Boarding for the afternoon cruise begins at 2:30 p.m. to sail at 3. Prices are $44.95 for adults, $29.95 for children plus tax, port fees, and gratuity.

In Brandon, you can share an Italian style Thanksgiving Feast at Buca di Beppo. Prices start at $15 a person when a small feast is shared by three people (or a large feast is shared by 6.) Opens at 11 a.m.

Maggiano’s at Westshore Plaza opens at 11 a.m. Prices for the Thanksgiving Day Menu are $36.95 per person or $17.95 for kids ages 5 to 12.

The Rusty Pelican, on Rocky Point, will be having a Thanksgiving Day Buffet. Prices are $46 for adults. $19 for children.

All three of the Columbia Restaurants in the Tampa Bay area (Ybor City, Clearwater Beach & St. Petersburg) will be open for Thanksgiving at 11 a.m. Prices for a traditional Thanksgiving meal are $21.95 for adults and $5.95 for children under 10. The complete dinner menu will also be available all day. The Columbia Restaurant Café at Tampa International Airport will be open serving their regular menu but not a Thanksgiving meal. The Columbia Café will not be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Reservations are recommended at all of the above restaurants!

Florida Strawberry Festival Plant City FL

One week from today, on March 1, 2012, the annual Florida Strawberry Festival kicks off in Plant City, FL! This year's festival will run from Thursday, March 1st through Sunday, March 11th. Hours are daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Do you have your tickets?

Discount advance tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 - 12 (children under 5 are free with the admission of a paid adult) at participating Sweetbay Supermarkets. Prices at the gate will be $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 - 12. There are also special days and discounts.

Parking for the Florida Strawberry Festival is $5. For the first time, Courtesy Valet will be providing valet parking for $15. They will be located across from Gate 10 at the corner of Edwards and Reynolds Streets.

Josh Turner is one of the many performers in concert this year. Josh will be performing on March 5th, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. The Florida Strawberry Festival website includes information on headline entertainment and a schedule of events. How will you be celebrating Veteran's Day this year? Here are several events that will be taking place for celebrating Veteran's Day 2012 in Tampa, Fl.

On Friday, November 9, 2012, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce's Annual Veteran's Day Celebration will be at 10 a.m. in Joe Chillura Courthouse Square (corner of Madison, Kennedy, Pierce & Morgan). The Honored Guest Speaker will be Lt. Gen Robert B. Neller, USMC. This is a free event.

On Saturday, November 10, 2012, the 19th Annual Tampa Bay Veterans Day Parade will run from 10 a.m. to about 12:30 p.m. The parade route is at Hanley Rd between Barry Road and Paula Drive. This year's honoree is the late Pfc. Paul O. Cuzzupe II, US Army 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany. Cuzzupe was a 2005 graduate of Armwood High School. The parade is brought to you by Veterans Day Parade Group, Inc.

On Monday, November 12, 2012, most of the Hillsborough County offices will be closed in observance of Veteran's Day.

Also on Monday, November 12, 2012, you have the opportunity to cruise aboard the American Victory Ship, an authentic 1945 WWII ship. The Relive History Cruise will depart at 10 a.m. and return at approximately 4 p.m. Tickets are $110 for adults and $50 for youths 4 - 12. Location: 705 Channelside Drive.

As you think about the quickly approaching weekend, here are a few of the many things in Tampa Bay you can choose to do TONIGHT and tomorrow!

From 5 to 8 p.m. TONIGHT, November 16, 2012, the Enchanted Tree Lighting Ceremony & Holiday Street Party will be kicking off the holiday season in Hyde Park Village. Admission to the event is FREE. Proceeds from the treats and activities will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Remember to stay for the arrival of Santa Claus and the lighting of the tree!

From 6 to 10 p.m., TONIGHT, the Food Trucks will be back at MOSI in Tampa! The Food Truck Rally is FREE. Fees will apply to MOSI's other activities.

TOMORROW, November 17, 2012, the Whatever Women Want Expo will be at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10. Kids 12 and under are FREE. Women, you can find health, beauty, fashion tips and more at this expo!

Also TOMORROW, the 14th Annual Ybor City Heritage & Cigar Festival will be at Ybor Square and the surrounding areas. This is your chance to sample cultural foods and see how cigars are rolled. Tickets are $10 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are FREE!

Easter Photo Express - Today and tomorrow, April 6 & 7th, 2012, are the two last days to have pictures taken with the Easter Bunny at Brandon Town Center. St. Patrick's Day - Don't forget to wear green today!

Today, March 17th, is the day celebrated as St. Patrick's Day. The United States, Ireland, and many countries across the world will be celebrating. Don't forget to wear green today!

Blue was the original color associated with Saint Patrick. But as early as the 17th century, green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. The phrase the "wearing of the green" meant to wear a shamrock on your clothing in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.

Why do we wear green on St. Patrick's Day? An American legend has it that wearing the color green makes one invisible to leprechauns. Leprechauns would sneak up and pinch anyone they could see. Many children (and even some adults) enjoy carrying on this tradition of pinching people not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day.

St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of Irish and Irish-American culture. There are many events in the Tampa area to celebrate this day. However you choose to celebrate, have fun, be safe, but don't forget to wear green!
